The Center School Foundation is raising funds for a fitness center which will be located on the grounds of the school campus. The fitness center will be a state-of-the-art multi-purpose center which will house a full-sized basketball court, bleachers, offices, weight room, locker rooms, laundry room, and other amenities found in school fitness centers.
Our Need
Our school campus consists of an 80,000 square foot of a refurbished office building, and presently we have a “gym” facility located on the second floor which is only 3,300 square feet outfitted with indoor turf. This room is limited in its ability to offer our students a full range of physical fitness activities which can address the needs of our various aged special education students (from elementary to early adulthood). Our students deserve a facility that can meet their need for physical growth.

The Center School is a private, non-profit, state-approved special education school. We have been serving students with various learning disabilities for over 50 years. The Center School’s mission is to mentor and support students to empower them to reach their fullest potential through a comprehensive program tailored to the specific needs of each student. In addition to academics, our students also receive elective classes in art, music, industrial arts, physical education, computers, STEAM (Science, Technology, English, Art, & Math) and intramurals. We also have three school sports teams which compete against other schools: Soccer, Basketball, and Esports.
Our special education population consists of children with a variety of diagnoses that can impact attention and self-regulation skills. Our new multi-purpose fitness center will benefit the lives of our students by:

Developing fundamental motor skills through play.

Developing skills in team sports, team building activities, and individual fitness.

Increasing the self-esteem of our special needs population.

Increasing participation in team sports.

Teach our students skills that can help them be active their whole lives.

Assist our students with ADHD to think more clearly and focus better in classes.

Teach important social cues that will help them interact with others successfully.

Develop specific skills such as teamwork, good sportsmanship, and following rules.

Mitigate struggles with self-body image issues.

Improve mental health.

Support the physical, intellectual, and social-emotional development of each of our special education students who will gain the knowledge and opportunity to make healthy lifetime fitness choices.

Our proposed multi-purpose gymnasium will cost approximately $8 million to build.
