Project SEARCH
Transition to Work Program
The Center School is excited to announce that it will be launching its own Project SEARCH program starting in September 2025. This will provide local students with disabilities a unique opportunity to gain hands-on work experience and increase their employability after graduation. The program will run in partnership with RWJ Somerset to create meaningful work rotations for participants.
What is Project SEARCH?
The Project SEARCH Transition-to-Work Program is a unique, business-led, one academic year employment preparation program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands-on training through worksite rotations.
The program culminates in individualized job search and placement. The program focuses on serving young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who can benefit from personalized support during an intensive academic year of career development and internship experience.

Project SEARCH is a highly successful, collaborative program designed to provide transition-to-work services for students with disabilities, particularly those who are about to graduate from high school. The initiative partners with local businesses, vocational rehabilitation services, school districts, and other community organizations to offer real-world work experiences that help students gain the skills necessary for competitive employment.
The program typically includes:
Workplace Rotations: Students engage in multiple work experiences within a host business or organization. This allows them to explore different job roles and find a good match for their skills and interests.
Workplace Skills Development: Participants focus on gaining the skills needed to succeed in a variety of work settings, including communication, time management, teamwork, and problem-solving.
Job Readiness Training: Alongside the work experience, participants receive instruction on resume writing, interview techniques, and job search strategies.
Post-graduation Support: After completing the program, participants receive ongoing support to help them transition into full-time employment.
Application Process: Applications for The Center School's Project SEARCH program will officially open on May 1, 2025. The school encourages families and students interested in applying to begin gathering the necessary information to submit a strong application. The admissions team will review each application and reach out to schedule interviews with selected candidates. This program will be an excellent opportunity for students to develop the skills and confidence they need to enter the workforce and achieve long-term success.
